ES News @es News Press ReleasesNEW YORK (July 7, 2016) – Brightside Academy held its first, free parenting class Thursday at its 1093 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY academy as part of an 8-week series constructed by NYC Project Launch. The Circle of Security parenting series provides parents and caregivers resources and support to build a secure parent-child relationship. Families are asked to discuss the importance of forming secure relationships with their children based on interactions with one another, how to be responsive to your child’s needs, and reflecting on your strengths and weaknesses as a caregiver/parent.
The purpose of this series is part of an extensive strategic plan funded by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in an effort to reshape the early childhood education system for children birth to 8-years-old in the cities most distressed communities.
Brightside Academy Family Advocate, Sandy Noel who has headed this project from its inception, feels this is a wonderful event that allows parents to learn life-long coping skills and promotes family participation and communication. While the first class turned up only a few parents, the parents who attended also loved the class. A parent at the class said to Noel, “You need to continue this workshop forever!”
This workshop is held every Thursday from 4:00PM to 6:00PM and despite the free admission, parents are still required to register before the class. Noel, who has been working with other Family Advocates and Brightside Academy management, hopes to extend these classes to other neighboring academies such as its 331 E. 150th St, Bronx, NY location in September.
Parents or caregivers who are interested in participating can contact Sandy Noel to register for this series. She can be reached at (347) 928-3046 or snoel@brightsideacademy.com.
The NYC Project Launch program a program funded by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that aims to promote the wellness of all children from birth to eight years old and their families who are most in need. The services they provide address physical, emotional, social, behavioral, and cognitive stages of development by providing better health and mental services. This program was founded in September 2009.
